Are you brave enough?
Do you believe you can do it?
Have you jumped at the chance to go on an adventure?
Today I accompanied my son and some of his classmates to see the film ‘The Hobbit’.
I loved it! What a great story!
There were some really fantastic special effects, great scenery and wonderful characters. But my favorite, was the actual story and some really magical lines that rang so true for me.
There is the scene near the beginning of the film. You could tell that Bilbo Baggins, the Hobbit, really didn’t want to go on this adventure. Gandalf, the Wizard, told him it would be exciting and dangerous. He told him that he had faith in Bilbo and that he knew that he would be able to handle it.
Bilbo asked if he would come home safely and Gandalf admitted that he didn’t know but he said that if he did, he would come home changed.
It is truly the hero’s journey.
Starting a business is like that adventure. You know it will be exciting and though maybe not dangerous, certainly risky. If you have someone that has faith in you, it REALLY helps! Get yourself a trusted mentor who knows that you can handle it, it makes all the difference. Set off on your hero’s journey.
I love the moment when Gandalf is asked why he chose the Hobbit to accompany them on the journey. He admits ‘perhaps it is because I am afraid. He gives me courage.’
In business there are many fears. In fact, sometimes it is the fear that actually runs our business. But who gives you courage in your business? I wonder, have you found that person that gives you courage?
Thorin, the leader of the dwarves says, ‘loyalty, honor and a willing heart, I can ask no more than that’. What do you ask for? What will inspire you to keep striving towards your goals? What do see in the people that follow you or look to you for leadership?
I was really inspired by this film, as much for the experience as for the thoughts that have emerged as a result of taking off some of the day to spend this truly magical time with my son.
There is always an adventure waiting for us to find the courage to take on. There is always the hero’s journey, just around the corner.
Are you brave enough?
“Reach out and touch somebody’s hand make this world a better place if you can” This is a line that inspires me to reach out and lend a helping hand to those who feel that they are standing on sinking sand. Yes I am inspired to assist some one to recognize the gift and the potential which lies deep within. I would like to help them to unearth it and share it with the rest of the world.
Beautiful, thanks for your comment Janet.

Lisa I loved the way you connected the movie and the Hero’s journey. You made me want to see the film 🙂
It is so true that when we start a journey we change a lot along the way and and either we are not the same person as we started or the place called home is different than the beginning of the journey!
Love reading your your post and listening to your stories 🙂
Take care
