If you’re anything like me, you probably like
workshops, opportunities to explore, learn, and
think a little differently.
I jump at any chance to go and immerse myself and
create the chance to grow and expand my knowledge
and awareness.
Sometimes, it can be really challenging.
Several years ago, I attended a one-day workshop
with a wonderful Master Storyteller, Ashley
Ramsden from the International School of
Storytelling in the UK. I still remember a lot of
the stories he told and the lessons he taught.
I also remember being excruciatingly
uncomfortable with some of the exercises that he
had us try out.
The most challenging for me, was the very
physical movements and games that demanded that we
do incredibly silly stuff.
What do you find most challenging in your
practice and your performance?
It might be getting up in front of an audience to
speak. Or perhaps you find it difficult to close
a sale? Maybe marketing yourself and your
services is the most challenging…
Think about it? What gives you that horrible
feeling like you just don’t feel like it’s right
for you and you’re no good at it?
The chances are, that very same thing that you
find difficult, is really important in your
business and a part of your ability to be
successful.
So, what can you do about it?
Well, let me tell you something strange.
Last month, I had the opportunity to spend a
whole week with the very same Master Storyteller.
This time it was completely different.
I loved the exercises, especially the ones that
required us to be fully in our bodies and using
all kinds of physical silliness!
Ashley actually asked me, “What’s happened,
what’s changed?”
I thought about it for a while and then I
realized, it’s Zumba.
You see, for the last 18 months, I have been
living and loving zumba four or five times a week.
And it’s completely changed my relationship to my
own movement and my body in general.
I love the music, the dancing, the freedom, the
creativity, the sweat and even the sometimes
complete silliness of it!
I love my teacher who makes us believe that we
can do it, even if the mirror tells us something
quite different!
I love that I’ve rediscovered all kinds of places
and movements of my body that simply connect with
my wildest spirit and deep into my soul.
My Master teacher began to call it ‘the Zumba
affect’. When I started to tell a story and was
disconnected from my physicality or in any way
stiff, he would ask me to do some Zumba as I told
the first few lines of the story.
It looked pretty silly but it did it’s magic. I
immediately reconnected with my body and began to
tell in a whole different way.
So, what’s your ‘Zumba affect’?
What can you do that you love and will shift that
specific place where you are blocked?
What can you try that will lift your spirit and
touch your soul so that you resonate with your
true essence in all that you do?
If you don’t know, well, lucky you, you’ve got
so many places to look, so many things to try!
And don’t worry, you’ll find it. We all have
such an incredible ability to connect to our
brilliance and shine forth with our truest nature.
You have exactly what you need inside you; you
may just need the key to unlock it. The right key
or the right piece of music, or the right zumba
moves, keep looking, you’ll find it!
And please share below, I’d love to hear what
works for you!
Best wishes and best stories

I did enjoy that, thank you for sharing Lisa. And thanks for asking too
My Zumba effect is, er, Zumba! I’ve also found it’s changed me, I no longer have to force myself to exercise twice a week – I now get to party 3-5 times a week. I also feel differently about my body: I’ve always loved dancing, but now there’s a big emphasis on my hips, which carries over into other areas of life, LOL.
Love it! Best wishes to a zumba buddy! Lisa
